Action Plan

With the aim of increasing the number of student’s enrolment and making results better, the department takes some measure.

  • For smooth maintaining of the academic activities, counselling is to be given to the new students and as such it is considered to be the key aspect of the department. One important part of counselling is the Student Induction Programme that is organized by the department in the beginning of the new academic session. It is to help new students inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution and feel comfortable in the new environment so that they can build healthy relationships among themselves, with senior students and teachers.
  • Moral and financial support (if any) are to be provided to the needy students.
  • Class Allotment: In each semester, class allotment to teachers is to be made and the courses are to be distributed equally among the teachers of the department.
  • Teaching by means of group discussions, assignments, project works, modern technology etc.
  • Detection of slow Learners. Slow learners are to be identified by means of classroom interactions, giving homework and conduct of class tests.
  • They are provided with more simplified study materials.
  • Remedial classes to be arranged for the slow learners.
  • To be patient towards slow learners, encourage them and celebrate their success.
  • Short term action plan: Routine, lesson plan, remedial classes, tutorial classes, discussion, interactive session etc.

Students’ Feedback

General feedbacks are collected from the passed-out students so that the teachers of the department can improve themselves as well as take care of the development of the department. Students are asked to give their feedback on teachers’ punctuality, communication skill, friendly behaviour etc.

Details of learning resources in the department

The department has one departmental library with about 200 books that includes text books, reference books, journals, dictionaries, periodicals, magazines etc. We do have a departmental computer which is of immense help to the faculty members to keep their knowledge on the subject updated as well as for students work. There is also one wall magazine which is displayed in the department with innovative knowledge of students.

Facilities

The department is equipped with a dedicated departmental room that provides essential academic and administrative support. The major facilities available in the department include:

  • Two book shelves for storing books, reference materials, and departmental documents.
  • Three wooden tables for faculty work, student interaction, and administrative tasks.
  • Three wooden chairs and two plastic chairs to accommodate faculty members, visiting guests, and students.
  • A wall clock to maintain punctuality and smooth functioning of academic activities.
  • A water filter and a water jug ensuring clean drinking water for faculty and students.
  • A notice board for displaying important announcements, schedules, and departmental information.
  • A wall magazine showcasing student creativity and departmental updates.
  • A computer for academic work, documentation, and administrative use.

These facilities contribute to a conducive academic environment and support the smooth functioning of departmental activities.

Strength

  • The department consists of three faculty members at present of which two are Assistant professors and one part-time teacher.
  • There are two permanent faculty members in the department.
  • Without compromising the scheduled activities of the department all the teachers of the department now and then attend UGC sponsored National and International seminars, and publish articles, research papers in journals and edited books with ISBN in order to sustain spontaneous intellectual growth with latest information.
  • The department has a separate departmental room.
  • The department has sufficient students both in HS and UG level.

Weaknesses

  • Lack of sufficient number of permanent faculty members.
  • Lack of well-equipped departmental seminar room.
  • Lack of modern class room facilities.
  • Lack of internet facility in the department.
  • Lack of reading room for students in the department.

Opportunity

  • Students are trained in such a way that they can aim and enroll into the higher institutions and they are also made research oriented so that they can substantially contribute to the society.
  • The department produces graduates who may appear at the various competitive examinations, both national and state level and engage themselves in various sectors.
  • In todays mechanized world where moral and spiritual values have deteriorated to a large extent, the teaching of spiritual and ethical values inherent in philosophy can contribute towards the overall well-being and proper development of the students.
  • The students who learn Yoga philosophy properly, can implement their knowledge of it as also a means of career.

Challenges

  • Today the higher education system is undergoing constant changes under the effect of globalization. In developing countries like India, the various stakeholders have been severely affected by this process. The poor students cannot dream of higher education. Public funding on people’s welfare has been slashed drastically as each one mostly aims at personal growth. Moreover, the students in the college have been facing yearly environmental challenges like flood and soil erosion which make the process of education even more difficult.
  • The prevailing semester system, the internal assessment like home assignment, project work library work, group discussion, seminar presentation, sessional examination etc. and also end-term evaluation leave less amount of time for teachers to concentrate on teaching. So, it affects the teaching skill of the teachers of the department. Moreover, the department has been suffering from lack of sufficient faculty.
  • Lack of publication of text books in due time (specially in Assamese medium) for each semester.

Future Plan

  • To organize UGC sponsored national and international seminars, workshop etc.
  • To publish a departmental magazine for the students.
